The "Evo" stands for evolution which is the key concept behind this exciting new car. It is not simply an evolution of the Grande Punto, but rather and evokution within the compact car segment as a whole.
Punto Evo meets these demands head - on with ground breaking new engines delivering the seemingly impossible - more power and less emissions, new, high quality interiors traditionally associated with higher-end segments and high-tech innovations such as Blue&Me - Tom Tom. In a nutshell, Punto Evo is the evolved car for evolved drivers.
WHAT IS NEW ABOUT THE PUNTO EVO?
There are three main areas of evolution Vs Grande Punto Series 2: - Interior & exterior styling. - Safety. - Innovative technology.
The Punto Evo's exterior design combines compact dimensions with maximized internal space so its spacious where it matters. It looks bigger due to tis extended bumpers and altered front grille but infact its external dimensions are largely unchanged. There is now clearer styling differentiation between the range - on GP and Sporting models the front grille is black with a hexagonal mesh pattern. On Active, Dynamic and Eleganza versions, the grille is wither black or a metallic effect and has a simple, stylish, linear design.
The car as a whole clearly represents the new trends of the Fiat style - including the new look of the front end which echoes the Fiat 500. as on the Fiat 500 across the front of the bonnet there is a new strip that incorporates the Fiat badge which is now bigger and higher up so as to give it greater prominence. Again, there is a clear differentiation in the range with a chrome strip on Active, Dynamic and Eleganza versions and a burnished chrome strip on GP and Sporting versions.
The cars headlights have also been redesigned with stunning new transparent lens covers and Daytime Running Lights to ensure maximum visibility at all times. The rear light clisters are the crowning glory at the back of the car. Their 'L' shape frames the rear windows, making the car visually distinctive and easily recognizable at night. They also help to increase the perceived vehicle size.
The hatchback door now has a larger Fiat badge, which you use to open the boot on all versions except Active. Immediately below, in a central position, is the new Punto logo with different coloured dots on the 't' depending on the engine type - the dot is red for 1.4 MultiAir (135 bhp) Sporting and black for all other versions.
Evolved interior styling
The interior of the Punto Evo has been completely re-designed with top quality materials and superb attention to detail. It has the look and feel of a much higher class of car and features an all-new, modern, comfortable and high-tech "living area", with dashboard and instrumentation which are as stylish as they are functional. You can see the quality in the details such as new, embossed, padded panelling which is soft to the touch and redesigned seats. All interior trims are completely new.
There is the same quality and attention to detail in things you can't see such as the noise reduction inside the cabin.
Evolved Safety
Punto Evo continues to offer the same outstanding level of safety equipment as Grande Punto Series 2, however, it has the following safety enhancements:
Driver's Kneebag Punto Evo has a driver's kneebag as standard on all versions which provides total protection for the driver's lower limbs. The only other competitor in the B segment which offers this as standard is Ford Fiesta.
Foglights with adaptive cornering function When the car turns a reasonably sharp corner at night, the foglight on the inside of the bend comes on, giving the driver better kerbside visibility. This occurs automatically when the headlights are on and the front wheels turn past a certain angle - and also when the appropriate indicator is activated. The system only engages when the car is travelling at less than 25 mph. These foglights are standard on GP and Sporting versions.
Daytime Running Lights (DRL) The headlights come on as soon as the engine is started and stay on all the time. They run with reduced voltage and power consumption is considerably less than with normal dipped headlights. The advantage of DRL is that the car is more visible to other road users and pedestrians and there is never any danger of the driver forgetting to turn on the lights at dusk.
Double seatbelt pre-tensioners The Punto Evo's seatbelt pre-tensioners act on both sides of the seat, ensuring that the tensioning is evenly distributed and steady.
Evolved technology
Start&Stop Start&Stop is standard across the Punto Evo range, considerably reducing CO2 levels and improving fuel consumption figures. It is compatible with Dualogic transmission, offering a unique combination within the segment.
The Start&Stop system is activated each time the vehicle is switched on - unless specifically deactivated by using the Start&Stop key. The system comes with the Gear Shift Indicator system, effectively a "co-pilot" that suggests which gear to use and when to change gear, allowing more efficient use of the engine.
Euro 5 Emissions The entire Punto Evo range is Euro 5 emissions compliant, well ahead of the legislation deadline of January 2011 for new car registrations.
MultiAir engines Punto Evo will be the first FIAT car to feature the revolutionary MultiAir engines, offering considerable improvements to power, torque, emissions and fuel consumption figures. We will offer 2 MultiAir engines - both 1.4 but with power outputs of 105 bhp and 135 bhp.
MultiAir is an electro-hydraulic device that ensures the most appropriate opening of the engine's intake valves, whatever the engine speed. This means that the engine recovers 10% of the energy normally lost in pumping the pistons. The results are astonishing - for example, the 1.4 (135 bhp) MultiAir engine enjoys a 12% improvement in power and a 16% improvement in CO2 emissions vs the 1.4 (120 bhp) T-Jet engine.
The table below outlines all key competitor engines with power output between 95 and 135 bhp and their associated CO2 figures. As you can see, with a power output of 135 bhp and CO2 emissions of just 129 g/km, the 1.4 Punto Evo MultiAir really offers a unique proposition within the segment. In summary, our MultiAir engines offer lower CO2 (meaning a lower annual road fund licence fee) coupled with greater power than most key competitors.
2nd Generation MultiJet engines
Fiat has led the way in diesel technology for many years, having first developed the groundbreaking Common Rail diesel engine with Unijet fuel injection which used two injections of fuel. This was made even smoother and more efficient with the MultiJet engine's five injections per cycle.
Now we have gone one step further with its second generation MultiJet engine, which delivers eight injections per cycle. All MultiJet engines on Punto Evo will be 2nd generation and therefore offer benefits including a 2% reduction in CO2 emissions, a 30% reduction in NOx emissions (nitrogen oxide - which is one of the emissions reduction targets forming part of the Euro 5 regulations) and much improved engine smoothness.
Blue&Me - TomTom
Punto Evo will also be the first car in the Fiat range to offer Blue&Me - TomTom, a user-friendly interface which runs the following services via Bluetooth: - touch-screen navigation system, - mobile phone, - trip computer - and MP3 reader with steering wheel commands
The unit itself has a 4.3-inch high-resolution touch-screen, is portable and is connected to the car via an integrated connection (pre-disposition) in the upper part of the dashboard. This pre-disposition is standard on all trims except Active and the Blue&Me - TomTom is available as an optional accessory.
What's in the Punto Evo range?
Punto Evo will be available in 5 trims and two different product ranges aimed at different customer groups. The Comfort Line will offer maximum comfort and luxury to customers with touches of elegance and the Sport Line will focus on style, sportiness and sleek lines.
Punto Evo Active
Standard equipment on the Active trim includes the following (changes vs Grande Punto Active are in bold):
- Driver and front passenger airbag - Driver's knee airbag - Height adjustable driver's seat - Remote central locking - ABS with EBD - Electric front windows - Electrically adjustable, body-coloured, heated door mirrors - Deadlocks - DualDrive power steering - Stereo radio CD MP3 with steering wheel controls - Start&Stop - Blue&Me - Rake and reach adjustable steering wheel - Heated rear windscreen - 3 rear seats and seatbelts - Fix & Go tyre kit (spare wheel is available as an option for just £35)

Active to Dynamic £800 OTR price difference £1,100 additional content
Dynamic to Eleganza
From the Dynamic the logical walk up the 'comfort' side of the range is to the Eleganza. Here there is a jump of £1,700 (from a 1.4 8v (77 bhp) Dynamic 5 dr to a 1.4 MultiAir (105 bhp) Eleganza, but for which you get a much more powerful engine which is worth £700 as well as a much richer content. This really is a tremendous package for the customer and the specification of this car is perfect for the Punto Evo target audience outlined below. This is the trim we will emphasize in our consumer offers.
The GP comes in both 3 and 5 door versions. It comes in 1.4 8v (77 bhp) manual & Dualogic petrol engines, 1.4 MultiAir (105 bhp) petrol engine and a 1.3 MultiJet (75) diesel engine.

GP to Sporting
The top-of-the-range Sporting has a unique engine, the 135 bhp 1.4 MultiAir, to make it a true driving experience and it offers the following additional equipment: - 17" alloy wheels - ESP - cruise control - side skirts - chrome exhaust tailpipe - ambient lighting - sports seats - sports steering wheel - a superior interior trim over the GP
The improvement in power from 105 bhp to 135 bhp is worth £750. Although the price increase of £1,800 can be logically justified, in reality the Sporting appeals to a different type of customer who wants this particular version rather than someone who gradually walks up the range.
At launch the Sporting is available as a 3 door 1.4 MultiAir (135 bhp) version but a 3 door 1.6 MultiJet (120 bhp) version will be available from October 2010.
GP to Sporting £1,800 OTR price difference £1,850 additional content

Part of the Style Pack on Dynamic or Eleganza is a metallic finish bumper insert (standard on Eleganza) or metallic finish side moulding. These come in 2 shades - Dark Metal or Carbon Metal. Additionally, we offer a Visibility Pack consisting of rain sensors and Electrochromatic rear view mirror (a new feature on Punto Evo) for £150 and a Leather Pack for added luxury at a cost of £800 which represents outstanding value vs our key competitors.
